Tasting the legacy of the India Club
Updated: Apr 20, 2019

We have had the absolute pleasure to organise a series of supper clubs at the India Club (Strand, London) for the National Trust London's latest exhibition 'Home Away from Home: the India Club'.
During these immersive evenings we use audio, projection and taste to bring diners closer to key people in the India Club’s history and learn about the duality of the Club – as a modest and welcoming space vs a place of major political and historical significance. The stories shine a light on the rich social history of this iconic club on the Strand. They showcase the significance of the India Club as an important meeting point and community space, initially for migrants arriving from the Indian subcontinent, and gradually spreading to a wider intellectual community. Recently this vital space has come under threat from potential redevelopment.
Even though the food and stories didn't change, each evening was completely different because of the people who came together; it was amazing to hear all the wonderful memories told by the people who came to our events. We met people who have been coming to this club for 30 years, and others who were there for the very first time. The sharing that happened between people was truly magical and will stay with us forever. This feeling of belonging, acceptance and celebration of our differences is what makes the India Club so great and which is why so many people are fighting for it to stay open. We grew to love this place, the people who shaped it in the past who we never met, and the passionate family and staff who are doing an amazing job running it now. Help us to keep the history of the India Club alive, by supporting its future.
Because we loved it so much and many were disappointed to not have had the experience to come along, we're running a couple of more events! The first one will be on the 2nd of June. Places are limited, so book your tickets now!
